Betrifft: BYU Zensur

Die YBU ... ooops ... ever so sorry ... die BYU hat es besser. An Gottes UniversitÃ¤t wird wohl in Zukunft der Student der Geschichte keine Gelegenheit mehr haben Filme wie "Saving Private Ryan" oder "Schindlerâ€™s Liste" zu sehen. Und wenn doch, dann nur noch heftig zerschnitten, zensiert. Wir erinnern: Selbst "Titanic" wurde in der Vergangenheit and der YBU (in deren Kinos auf dem UnigelÃ¤nde zensiert). Dann gibt es nur noch Soft-Geschichte. Eine Ã¤hnliche Vorschrift soll bald, lt. der BYU-Sprecherin, an die BYU Professorenschaft ergehen, in der es auch "Richtlinien" gibt fÃ¼r die KÃ¼nste (GemÃ¤lde (keene Nackten bitte ja), wech mit die Plastiken, Skulpturen etc. (keene nackte ollen Griechen, den feschen David och nich mehr, wo kommen wa denn da hin? Nach Utah, womÃ¶glich wah? Wie ja vor nicht allzu langer Zeit ja geschehen, Rodin Meisterwerke wurden aus einer YBU Ausstellung verbannt, etc.). An YBU Zeichenkursen lernen die Studenten an lebenden Objekten (wie auf der ganzen Welt, auÃŸer bei Talitubbies natÃ¼rlich... da wird z.b. die Frau eh nicht gezeichnet, hÃ¶chstens gesteinigt), nur in Utah sind die "Nackten" dabei angezogen (Turnanzug). Auch Photographien. NatÃ¼rlich steht die Kirche dahinter, da glaubenstreue Mitglieder ja z.B. Filme etc., die "exzessives Blut, Gewalt, ProfanitÃ¤t oder Nacktheit" zeigen, meiden sollen. Wir erinnern: Bei "Titanic" konnte Nicht- bzw. Exmormonen fÃ¼r ca. 3 Sekunden (?) die Nippel der Titelheldin sehen. Glaubenstreue Mormonen sahen: a) Nix, bzw. b) eine schwarzen Bildschirm bzw. Leinwand (bis hin, daÃŸ obige Filme Ã¼berhaupt nicht mehr gezeigt werden in den YBU Kinos). Shrek, Schneewittchen und Bambi werden mit Sicherheit auch gerade geprÃ¼ft. Immerhin, bei Shrek gibt es z.B. eine massive Massenkeilerei, bei Schneewittchen einen versuchten Mord ... und bei Bambi ... ehhhh ... die naturalistische Gewalt des harten Tier bzw. Waldlebens zu sehen. Das schreiht fÃ¶rmlich nach der Schere.

Das an einer Softversion der Bibel bzw. des Buches Mormon gearbeitet bzw. geschnipselt wird (Gewalt, Blut, Sex, Pornographie) ist lediglich ein GerÃ¼cht ... denke ich. Wobei ...

Es ist ja hinlÃ¤nglich bekannt welchen Preis YBU Professores gewinnen, wenn sie solchen inspirierten Anweisungen zuwiderhandeln: Ade Marie.

BYU may halt use of R-rated film clips

Proposal would discourage use of them in class

PROVO â€” The practice of showing clips of "Saving Private Ryan" and "Schindlerâ€™s List" to history students may come to an end at Brigham Young University.
After three years of campus discussion, BYU is closer to formally adopting a policy that, among other things, may discourage the use of R-rated movies while teaching.
A draft of the final recommendation may be forwarded to BYU President Merrill Bateman by the end of the month, said university spokeswoman Carri P. Jenkins.
Jenkins said a decision on the proposed policy could be made by May. The policy will govern how professors and instructors use visual materials â€” including paintings, sculptures and photographs.
"Itâ€™s not just to ban R-rated movies," Jenkins said. "Itâ€™s about what professors should ask themselves" before using such teaching tools as films, DVDs and Web sites.
The proposal, which BYU will not make public until a final draft is approved, doesnâ€™t issue outright bans, Jenkins says.
"Itâ€™s more of a philosophical document â€” of when, if and all of those questions," she said.
The latest recommendation was circulated to three deans at the university owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which encourages faithful members to avoid films with excessive gore, violence, profanity or nudity.
Deans of the colleges of humanities; fine arts and communications; and family, home and social relations have reviewed the document and forwarded comments to the administration.
"(Those colleges) are the ones that use the visual materials under discussion the very most," Jenkins said.
Jenkins also would not release the name of the BYU employee who is charged with writing the final document.
BYU professors and administrators started discussing the legal and moral issues of using films that had been edited for content in the classroom after BYUâ€™s Varsity Theater in 1998 stopped showing edited versions of R-rated movies.
The decision to stop showing edited and airline versions of R-rated Hollywood flicks came after an American Fork theater was threatened with a lawsuit by Paramount for snipping several racy scenes from Academy Award-winning "Titanic."
K. Newell Dayley, dean of BYUâ€™s College of Fine Arts and Communications, said the lengthy process to gather input on the visual-material proposal has been productive for the school, which in the past has been criticized by national academic associations for allegedly fostering an environment that discourages academic freedom.
And BYUâ€™s sensitivity to nudity, even in classic works of art, has generated controversy. Three years ago, BYU was widely panned for not showing four nude statues in an exhibit of works by French sculptor Francois-Auguste-Rene Rodin.
But does an institution of higher education like BYU, which boasts noted scholars, researchers and visiting lecturers, need such a policy? Dayley hesitates to say it does.
"(But) do we need a discussion? Absolutely," he said. "The process of discussion, a full and lively discussion about philosophies, thatâ€™s what is important."
