Diese Nachricht fand ich in der Salt Lake Tribune. Es zeigt, welche wechselseitige beziehung es in den USA zwischen Republikanern und Mormonen (Fundamentalisten) gibt:
Protecting religion
Salt Lake Tribune
The Republican National Committee has established Web sites telling Catholics, Evangelicals and Mormons why their religious beliefs should cause them to vote against Sen. Kerry. The RNC has also sent letters to Christians in swing states saying, if Democrats are elected, the Bible will be banned. These tactics not only mix religion with politics, but also assure that what is a divisive and unscrupulous political campaign will only become more so.
A more serious concern with offensive political tactics like these is the potential for corrupting religion by using it for political ends. History is replete with examples, from using religion to promote wars in medieval Europe, to the Crusades and Inquisition, to the persecution of the Pilgrims, Catholics and Mormons. At this moment those seeking political power in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Middle East are using religion for their inhumane political ends.
The separation of church and state is just as important for the protection of religion as it is for protecting individual liberty from domination of government by a particular religion. The leaders of the Catholic, Evangelical and Mormon churches should demand that the RNC cease to misuse these religions in the GOPs effort to retain political power. We should not let cynical politicians compromise the independence and integrity of religions and religious beliefs for their amoral, and often immoral, secular ends.
