On April 20, the Salt Lake Tribune published a letter written by the Executive Committee of Affirmation: Gay and Lesbian Mormons in response to a recent statement by Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve:
As members of Affirmation: Gay and Lesbian Mormons, we are bewildered by a statement made by Elder L. Tom Perry during the most recent LDS General Conference. On April 4, Elder Perry said, "We should have learned by now that alternate lifestyles of family formations have not worked and will never work."
Polygamy, admittedly an "alternate lifestyle of family formation," worked for Joseph Smith, Brigham Young and nearly every Mormon leader of the 19th century. Similarly, same-sex partnerships work today for hundreds of thousands of monogamous couples worldwide who are committed to their partners, have children and provide for their families.
We agree with Elder Perry when he says that families are under attack. But when we see LDS leaders spend millions of dollars so that we will never be able to marry, and lobby so that our children will never have two legal parents, we arrive at a different conclusion about who is behind this attack.
We encourage the LDS Church to strengthen families by combating divorce, spousal abuse, and other real causes for family breakup. But we challenge any religious leader to demonstrate how same-sex marriage will be detrimental to the American family.

Da stellt sich wirklich die Frage, wie eine gleichgeschlechtliche Beziehung die Familienwerte einer Gesellschaft zerstören würde. Die Jungs sollten mal in andere Länder reinsehen, welche Erfahrungen die gemacht haben!
