The Salt Lake TribuneSalt Lake City prosecutors are mulling whether to file misdemeanor charges against dozens of East High School students caught on video participating in a "fight club" Dec. 15 at the Yalecrest LDS ward house.
Police say an underground flier had been distributed at the school advertising the fights. One student obtained keys to the church and opened it for the participants and "fans" late on a Saturday night when no church officials were there.
Officials estimate 75 to 100 teens were watching the fights when Salt Lake City police, responding to neighborsâ complaints of a disturbance, swarmed the church and broke up the event. Though many students fled, police and school officials have been reviewing the videotape to identify suspects.
A police spokesman said prosecutors are deciding whether to file disturbing-the-peace charges. The decision is complicated by the fact that some participants are adults and some are minors, and officials want to be fair.
LDS Church officials were approached by prosecutors, but declined to press breaking-and-entering charges.Quelle:
