President Young remained very strict in his interpretation. He believed the curse included not only priesthood restriction but also black skin and perpetual servitude. He believed the curse could be removed only by God and that the Civil War effort to free the slaves was in vain. He believed that the Civil War would destroy the United States and spread to every nation until the Saints could return to Missouri and build a temple in Jackson County. The slaves could be freed only by a decree from God by revelation to the prophet accompanied by the removal of the mark of Cain. It was not expected before the millennium.[citation needed]

Peterson held that male descendents of a mixed-marriage could not become a Mormon priest, even if they had a lone ancestor with African blood dating back many generations. However, he did hold out hope for African Americans, in that a black person baptized into the Mormon faith and who accepted Joseph Smith as a prophet of god could attain the highest form of salvation known to Mormons, the Celestial kingdom. Peterson said, "If that Negro is faithful all his days, he can and will enter the celestial kingdom. He will go there as a servant, but he will get celestial glory."

Brigham Young war nicht so scharf. Er glaubte "nur", daß die erhöhenden heiligen Handlungen ins Millenium verschoben werden. Damit würden die negroiden Menschen mit den Mensche des frühen Mittelalters auf einer Stufe stehen, denn ohne himmlische Buchhalter sind deren Namen nicht auffindbar und somit für Tempelarbeit nicht zugänglich. Wer hier über das Ziel hinausschießt ist Mark E. Peterson, der bis in die Kimball-Zeit Apostel war. Der hat die Lehre vom ewigen Sklaven vertreten.
Bei Brigham Young sehe ich nur eine aufschiebende Wirkung. Ich erinnere mich an ein Zitat, daß besagte, daß im Millenium, selbst wenn erst alle "Weißen" erlöst werden müßten, immer noch genug Zeit wäre, die "Schwarzen" zu erlösen. Vielleich kennt einer aus dem Forum die Quelle aus Journal of Discourses, wo das steht.
