Betrifft: Fakten oder Verzerrung über RHLT? Mein Leserbrief an SLT.

Als Zusatzinformation brachte die Tribune folgende Infos, die angeblich von der Gemeinschaft Christi stammen:

Facts about the Community of Christ:

HISTORY: The church traces its origins to 1830, when Joseph Smith Jr. founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Split from the Mormon church in the late 1850s in a dispute over who should succeed Smith.
In 1860, Joseph Smith III was ordained prophet-president of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Amboy, Ill. The church was led by Smith’s descendants until 1996, when W. Grant McMurray became president.
McMurray led the move to change the denomination’s name to Community of Christ in 2001.
MEMBERSHIP: About 250,000 in 50 countries.
    HEADQUARTERS: Independence, Mo.
BELIEFS: Closer to mainline Christian denominations than the Mormon church, but still considers the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants as scripture. Also believes in ongoing revelation, and ordains both men and women to the priesthood. There is no formal creed.
In 1997, McMurray proclaimed a new focus on peace and justice. The church now conducts a daily prayer for peace at its world headquarters, focusing on a different country each day.

Der Geschichtsteil ist natürlich ein bisschen arg HLT-lastig, und das veranlasste mich, den folgenden Leserbrief zu schreiben:

"History" too LDS-like "Facts about the Community of Christ"

Saturdays article "Facts about the Community of Christ" states as "Source: The Community of Christ." This should be doubtet for the History part, because of its very LDS point of view.

In 1830 Joseph Smith hasn’t "founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints," but the "church of Christ", which in 1834 had been renamed to "church of the Latter Day Saints." In 1838 that name was changed to "church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints". It was only under Brigham Young that the LDS Church got its current name "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."

At that same time the Reorganization kept the name of "church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" and united in 1852 under the name "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - New Organisation." When in "1860, Joseph Smith III was ordained prophet-president" its name was "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints."  It wasn’t until its incorporation in 1872 that the name "Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" appeared, which took a few years to commonly be accepted as the name of the Reorganization.

Further the Community of Christ views itself as the original Mormon church, thus the LDS Church split off when it left for the west, while the Reorganization stayed in the historical places of Mormondom.
